It’s the story of everyone’s favorite ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure. Joined by a wise-cracking donkey, this unlikely hero fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and learns that friendship and love aren’t only found in fairy tales.

 Meet the Professional Cast!

Leslie Chapman LESLIE CHAPMAN (Ensemble) is excited in her first show with Berkeley Playhouse and to be performing in Shrek The Musical for a second time! Some of her favorite roles include Charity in Sweet Charity, Graziella in West Side Story, and Fairy Godmother in Shrek The Musical. Leslie graduated from Sonoma State with a BA in Dance and now teaches tap, jazz, and contemporary dance at Susie Harper School of Dance in Benicia.
Chloe Condon_website CHLOE CONDON (Princess Fiona) is thrilled to be playing her favorite musical theatre redhead (sorry Annie)! She was most recently seen on the Berkeley Playhouse MainStage as Logainne Schwartzandgrubenniere in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Other favorite credits include Snoopy!!! (Sally Brown) with 42nd Street Moon, Hairspray (Penny) with Broadway By the Bay, the San Francisco premiere of Xanadu (Kira) with New Conservatory Theatre Center, and My Way, A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra (Woman #2) with Diablo Theatre Company. She has also performed with Woodminster Summer Musicals, Ray of Light Theatre, Society Cabaret (at Hotel Rex), The Alcove Theatre, Alterena Playhouse, and Mountain Play Association. Katy Corbus KATY CORBUS (Ensemble)is very excited to be back at Berkeley Playhouse, having performed in Oliver! (The Artful Dodger), The Wizard of Oz, and Peter Pan on the MainStage. Previous credits: Carousel (Louise Bigelow) with Emerson Stage, Footloose (Ariel Moore) withStepping Stone Players, and The Secret Garden (Mary Lennox) with Lamplighters Music Theatre. Katy will be a junior in the BFA Musical Theatre program at Emerson College in Boston, MA this fall. Love and thanks to family, friends, and the whole Berkeley Playhouse team!
Brian Dauglash BRIAN DAUGLASH (Donkey) is honored to return to the Julia Morgan Theater. He last performed with Berkeley Playhouse in the MainStage production of Lucky Duck as Clem Coyote. No stranger to faux fur, Brian has performed as Genghis in Cats with Woodminster Summer Musicals and Pan in Bat Boy with Tri-Valley Repertory Theater. Sans-fur shows include Next to Normal (Gabe) and Carrie (Billy) with Pinole Players; You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Snoopy) and Lend Me A Tenor (Max) at Holy Names; The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Leaf Coneybear) and Godspell (Jesus) with CSU, East Bay; and City of Angels (Lt. Clay David CLAY DAVID (Lord Farquaad) received the Dean Goodman Best Director in San Francisco Bay award and is a two time winner of the Lee Hartgrave’s FAME Award. Clay was just awarded the 2014 Theatre Bay Area TITAN Award for Exceptional Theatre Artist. He has performed Off-Broadway and with regional theatres portraying the title roles of Amadeus, Hamlet, Phantom, The Dresser, and The Elephant Man. He recently portrayed Benjamin Levi in Giovanni is Here with the Ross Valley Players. This fall and spring he will be portraying Roat in Wait Until Dark; Valier in Samlandia, A Gondola Ride Through Love Out of Autism; and in his one man show, The Brothers of Bayou Teche at San Francisco’s Victoria Theatre with Circle of Life Theatre Company.
Aubri N AUBRI NO’EAU KAHALEKULU (Ensemble) is thrilled to be with Berkeley Playhouse again for Shrek The Musical! She was most recently seen in last summer’s MainStage production of The Wiz, easin’ on down the road with her fellow YBR’s (yellow brick road). She hopes everyone enjoys Shrek… and lets their freak flag fly! #freakflag #YBRshoutout.
MelisaMartinezweb MELISSA MARTINEZ (Ensemble)This is Melissa’s fourth show with Berkeley Playhouse, and there truly is no place like home. She was last seen on the MainStage as a featured dancer in A Little Princess earlier this season, and as 1/5 of the shady, yellow brick road in last season’s The Wiz. Her favorite roles include Hermia in Midsummer, Jon Tracy’s adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Solano Repertory Company and Diana Morales in A Chorus Line with Solano College Theater. She would like to thank her wonderful, crazy, supportive family and friends, especially her ever lovin’ brothers and sisters. Katrina McGraw KATRINA MCGRAW (Ensemble) is a San Francisco native who graduated from The Pacific Conservatory of The Performing Arts in 2011. There she was in Hairspray (Dynamite) and Caroline, or Change (Radio). She has worked with The New Conservatory Theater Company in Zanna, Don’t! (Kate) and Anansi, the Clever Spider (Nsia). She was recently in the first regional production of In The Heights (Abuela). Katrina went to New Orleans to develop a new musical, Upstairs where she originated the role of Inez. Other roles include The Apple Tree (Passionella), The Most Happy Fella (Cleo), and Gypsy (Mama Rose). Katrina is thrilled to be making her Berkeley Playhouse debut with such a fantastic show and role!
Allison Maneley ALLISON MENELEY (Ensemble) is thrilled to be making her Berkeley Playhouse debut in her second appearance of Shrek The Musical! You may have seen her in Diablo Theater Company’s production. Other credits include Rent (Maureen) with Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre, Disenchanted (Secondary Princess) with OMG Productions, Into the Woods (Little Red) with Ray of Light Theatre, and Little Shop of Horrors (Ronnette) with Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre. Allison graduated from UC Irvine in 2012 (where she participated in the New York program) and is a recent participant of the ATLAS program in San Francisco. She would like to thank all her loved ones for giving her the courage to dream big!
Emily Kristen Morris EMILY KRISTEN MORRIS (Ensemble)is currently pursuing a BFA in Musical Theatre at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music (CCM), and is home for the summer! A San Francisco native, Emily has appeared in many Bay Area productions with companies such as 42nd Street Moon (Gia in Carmelia) and Berkeley Playhouse (Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors), as well as in New York with Stagedoor Manor. Past credits include: Spamalot (Lady of the Lake), The Woman in White (Marian), Wild Party (Kate), and Aida (Amneris). Emily is a forever grateful student of Richard Nickol.
Tony Panighetti TONY PANIGHETTI* (Shrek) has performed up and down California as well as the high seas of Alaska, Canada, Europe, and the Bahamas with Crystal Cruise Lines Repertory Theater at Sea. Some of his Bay Area credits include La Cage aux Folles (Albin) with Cabrillo Stage, Sugar (Jerry/Daphne) with 42nd Street Moon, and he has alternated as both Man #1 and Man #2 in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (Theater On San Pedro Square, Sierra Repertory Theater, Willows Theater Co.). Tony has been a member of Actors’ Equity Association for over 14 years.
Jocelyn Roddie JOCELYN RODDIE (Ensemble) is excited to be back at Berkeley Playhouse with this talented team and cast in such a fun musical. She was last seen at the Playhouse as a featured dancer in A Little Princess. She most recently appeared in the world premiere of Giovanni is Here (Belle Levi) with Ross Valley Players, Miss Julie (Kristin) with Marin Onstage, and King Lear (Earl of Kent) with Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park. She would like to thank her supportive family and friends–and thank you, the audience, for supporting the magic and joy of live theatre.
Daniel Rubio DANIEL BARRINGTON RUBIO (Ensemble) is proud to be performing with Berkeley Playhouse for the first time. He recently graduated from Pacific Conservatory for the Performing Arts where he received his certificate. You may have seen him recently performing in The Speakeasy with Boxcar Theatre and Social Darwinism with Backhand Productions. Other credits include: Constable in Fiddler on the Roof, Officer Lockstock in Urinetown, Horton in Seussical the Musical, Herr Schultz in Cabaret, J.B. Biggley in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, as well as many others. He would like to thank his friends and family for their undying support and wisdom.
Shirley Smallwood SHIRLEY A. SMALLWOOD (Mama Ogre, Fairy Godmother, Dragonette, and Duloc Greeter) Credits include Tryshia the Divain The Last Session and Bricktop in Red, Hot, and Cole with New Conservatory Theater, Sister Mary Hubert in Dan Groggins’ Messhuga Nuns with Pacifica Repertory Theater, and A Comedy of Errors with Marin Shakespeare Theatre as well as numerous TV, film, and voice-over projects. Shirley has performed with many groups as either a featured vocalist or back-up vocalist including Yancy Taylor Quartet, EC Scott and Smoke, BedRock, and Soundwave. Shirley received her BA in Music from Holy Names College. With deep appreciation and gratitude, thank you to my family and friends for all their love and support.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA BRIAN STERLING (Ensemble) is over the moon to return to the Berkeley Playhouse stage after appearing in Annie in 2011. He was most recently seen in Diablo Theatre Company’s production of Singin’ in the Rain. Brian has a degree in Theatre with a Dance minor from Northwestern State University. He is also a published author with the e-book publication of 40 Days of Sterling Silver Linings available at AuthorHouse.com.
BrandenThomas_website BRANDEN THOMAS (Ensemble) started training in ballet and African dance at a young age and began singing in 11th grade after he was admitted into Oakland School for the Arts and its award-winning concert choir; there he received vocal training in a choral setting. He progressed as a vocalist in high school and started to perform in musical theatre. Credits include Avenue Q (Gary Coleman), Wish Upon A Star (Ursula), and Hairspray (Motor-mouth Maybelle). Branden desires and hopes to become someone who touches people through his work hopefully with a career in musical theatre.
Max Thorne_website MAX THORNE (Ensemble)is happy to be sticking around for his second show at Berkeley Playhouse after having just played Leaf Coneybear in the The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Max has performed in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and gone to Nationals in the annual Thespian Conference Competition. Other recent credits include Rent (Mark), Beauty and the Beast (Lefou), Spring Awakening (Moritz Stiefel), and A Year with Frog and Toad (Snail). A native of Seattle, Max enjoys the pristine weather of the bay but despises the terrible parking. With that aside, he hopes you enjoy this production as much as he did working on it.  
Kyle Valentine KYLE VALENTINE (Ensemble) is thrilled to be part of Shrek The Musical. He was last seen in A Christmas Carol with Center Repertory. Other credits: It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s Superman with 42nd Street Moon, Singin’ in the Rain with Diablo Theatre Company, Big River with Contra Costa Civic Theater, Joseph and the Amazing Technocolor Dreamcoat, Hairspray, and Oklahoma! with Contra Costa Musical Theatre. He’s worked backstage for eleven Center Repertory shows including Assistant Stage Managing for Spring Awakening. A high school senior, he trains with Young Repertory in Walnut Creek, studies dance at Lareen Fender’s The Ballet School, and studies voice with Chad Runyon.
Vanessa Vazquez VANESSA VAZQUEZ (Ensemble) This is Vanessa’s Berkeley Playhouse debut. That’s a big deal–and she’s honored to be a part of this company. Vanessa is an LA native, a UC Santa Cruz graduate, and a strict vegetarian. You may have seen her other shows including Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey), Oklahoma! (Ado Annie), Bat Boy (Shelly), Suessical The Musical (Cat), Marin Murder Mysteries, Twelfth Night with Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and The Full Monty with Cabrillo Stage.Vanessa has studied and performed improv in LA with The Groundlings, as well as in Santa Cruz and the Bay Area. Kenny Wang KENNY WANG (Ensemble) is a theatre student at UC Berkeley. There he has performed with BareStage Productions in Macbeth, Sweeney Todd…, and an original musical Death, and Other Hobbies. In high school he trained in music and dance, performing with Vista del Lago High School and El Dorado Musical Theatre. Past roles include Duane in Hairspray, John Proctor in The Crucible, and Jester in Once Upon a Mattress. Last year, Kenny studied abroad in London where he worked on a group devised cabaret called Club Adonis. Shrek The Musical is Kenny’s first appearance at Berkeley Playhouse, and he is ecstatic and grateful to be here.

Meet the Youth Cast!

CHIARA ABONDOLO-MAYO CHIARA ABONDOLO-MAYO is thrilled to be on the MainStage again with Berkeley Playhouse! She is a 4th grader at Escuela Bilingüe Internacional and loves singing, swimming, and frozen yogurt.
Alicia Bennett ALICIA BENNETT is thrilled to make her MainStage debut in Shrek The Musical. Alicia has performed in eight KidStage productions and loved every minute of it. She will be entering the 7th grade at Oakland School for the Arts. Alicia proudly wears her unicorn horn and hopes you all find ways to let your own unique freak flags fly.  
Loren Breidenbach LOREN BREIDENBACH will be a 6th grader soon and is excited to perform in Shrek! Loren has been in several Berkeley Playhouse productions including Annie and The Wiz (MainStage), Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland (KidStage).
BELLA COLES BELLA COLES (Teen Fiona) is thrilled to be in her ninth Berkeley Playhouse production. Favorite credits: A Little Princess (Lottie), Starmites (Milady), and Peter Pan Jr. (Peter Pan). Bella is entering 8th grade at Oakland School for the Arts.
Charlotte Curtin CHARLOTTE CURTIN is excited to be back at Berkeley Playhouse where her previous MainStage credits include A Little Princess (Schoolgirl); camps include Wild Kingdom (Ensemble) and The Wiz (Dorothy).
Emma Curtin EMMA CURTIN (Young Fiona) is excited to be back. MainStage credits include The Music Man (Amaryllis u/s), A Little Princess (Schoolgirl), and The Sound of Music (Gretl), as well as Starmites (Eleanor) and Mulan Jr. with the KidStage.
Elsa Faulders ELSA FAULDERS will be in 5th grade at Oxford Elementary and is thrilled to make her MainStage debut having been in several KidStage productions. Thanks to family, friends, and Berkeley Playhouse for providing this experience!
ANI-KAI HADLEY ANI-KAI HADLEY has performed with Berkeley Playhouse since 2nd grade; Shrek will be her sixth show! She just graduated from Aurora School and is headed to 6th grade at Bentley School in the fall.
Lila Higley LILA HIGLEY is thrilled to be part of this production. She is the 4th grade at Oxford Elementary and was last seen on the MainStage in The Music Man.
Rachel Itsekson RACHEL ITSEKSON is thrilled to return for her fourth MainStage show! She is in 5th grade at COVA and loves to perform and sing. Enjoy the show!
Pippa Kennedy PIPPA KENNEDY is entering 5th grade at Thousand Oaks and is in her fourth MainStage show at Berkeley Playhouse. She would like to thank her parents and dogs for encouraging her.

Charlotte Ying Levy CHARLOTTE YING LEVY (Young Fiona) is thrilled to be back on the MainStage after A Little Princess and The Sound of Music (Gretl). A 4th grader, she dedicates this to her biggest fans — her parents, brothers, and pet chinchilla.
Max Lewis MAX LEWIS will be a 6th grader at Oakland School for the Arts in the fall. He has performed in several KidStage productions and is excited to make his MainStage debut! Go A’s!
Tonio Manqueros TONIO MANQUEROS is excited to return after completing The Music Man on the MainStage. Born in Seoul, Korea he now attends Cornell Public School, sings with Kairos Youth Choir, and attended Bay Area Shakespeare Camp.
Caleb Meyers CALEB MEYERS is a 7th grader at Piedmont Middle School. He is pleased to perform in his ninth production with Berkeley Playhouse. Caleb also enjoys ballet, soccer, and violin.
Adeline Praskins ADELINE PRASKINS (Little Shrek) is thrilled to be in her first MainStage production at Berkeley Playhouse. She is a 4th grader at Malcolm X Elementary where she has performed in plays since kindergarten.
David Rukin DAVID RUKIN (Young Shrek) is thrilled to be back on the MainStage after performing in The Music Man. He is a 4th grader at Contra Costa Jewish Day School and enjoys soccer, guitar, and theater.
Lucy Urbano LUCY URBANO (Teen Fiona) is overjoyed to be in Shrek, her eighth Berkeley Playhouse show! Credits include Charlie (Willy Wonka…) and Becky (A Little Princess). She is a rising 8th grader at Oakland School for the Arts.
Rosy Urbano ROSY URBANO is beyond excited to be in Shrek! She was seen last summer in the MainStage’s The Wiz. Rosy is a rising 4th grader at Washington Elementary in Berkeley. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Sofia Valdez SOFIA VALDEZ was last seen on the MainStage in A Little Princess. She has participated with Fairyland Children’s Theater and Alameda Children’s Musical Theater. She is extremely happy to be in Shrek. Enjoy the show!
Madeleine Wack MADELEINE WACK is thrilled to make her MainStage debut! She recently performed in the TeenStage’s The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Rona Lisa Perretti). Madeleine is an 11th grader at Mentoring Academy.

Meet The Production Team!

MATTHEW MCCOY (Director and Choreographer) is a Bay Area transplant having worked previously on the East Coast. Matthew holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Coastal Carolina University. Performing and directing projects have taken him to London, Paris, China and to regional theaters across the country. Past directing and choreography credits include: Cinderella, The Music Man, Dracula, Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Bye Bye Birdie and Disney’s Mulan Jr. He would like to say THANK YOU to the Berkeley Playhouse staff, artistic and creative team, and cast of Shrek The Musical for bringing this “ogre” of a musical to life. RACHEL ROBINSON (Music Director) is delighted to be back at Berkeley Playhouse! Rachel previously was the music director of last year’s staged reading of Bridges: A New Musical, as well as the KidStage production of Peter Pan Jr., and directed the KidStage production of Alice in Wonderland Jr. Rachel holds a degree in music from New York University, and spent many years as a theatre artist in New York before relocating to the Bay Area in 2010. Bay Area music directing credits include The Speakeasy (Boxcar Theatre), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Boxcar Theatre), Cabaret (Sonoma Theatre Alliance), School House Rock (Bay Area Children’s Theatre), the national Regional Premier of 9 to 5ChessChicago (Shellie Award Nomination), and Rags (Willows Theatre). As a teaching artist, Rachel runs her own private voice and piano studio, and works for Bay Area Children’s Theatre as the director of the Civic Arts Stage Company in Pleasanton, and the Bulldog Theatre at Orinda Intermediate School.www.rachelrobinsonmusic.com
LARAINE GURKE (Stage Manager) is thrilled to be back at Berkeley Playhouse after stage managing part of Guys and Dolls last season. She is a freelance stage manager and technician and has worked at various companies throughout the Bay Area including We Players, Aurora Theatre Company, Center REP, New Conservatory Theatre Center, Broadway By the Bay, Killing My Lobster, Tranimation Studios, Ray of Light Theatre, and Altarena Playhouse, among others. Recently, Laraine worked backstage at Beach Blanket Babylon for two and a half years and is currently the Resident Stage Manager for Musical Theatre Works, a theatre company for young actors in San Francisco.
ROBERT BROADFOOT (Scenic Designer) works as a scenic designer in professional theaters nationwide. He received Bay Area Critic’s Circle Awards in Scenic Design for ‘bot with Magic Theatre in 2007 and Musical of Musicals with Center REP in 2008. He was recognized in 2011 with a national commendation in scenic design from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for Angels in America at St. Mary’s College, and designed Los Medanos’ Fences for the 2014 KCACTF festival. Robert’s recent projects include the world premieres of By and By with Shotgun Players, Sunlight with Phoenix Theater in Indianapolis, and Ampersand with Actors Theatre of Grand Rapids. Robert has assisted several prominent theatre designers, including legendary Broadway designer Douglas Schmidt. He received his MFA in scenic design from University of California, Davis and is the resident designer and technical director for Los Medanos College. Robert is a proud member of United Scenic Artists local 829.
MARK HUESKE (Lighting Designer) His work has been seen all over the United States. Starting his career doing lighting for theme park productions, Mark went on to earn his BFA in lighting design from the Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University. Mark designs for theatre, concert, dance, and circus venues. WENDY ROSS KAUFMAN (Resident Costume Designer) Fresh off receiving the BroadwayWorld, San Francisco award for best costume design (The Wiz), Wendy is thrilled to find herself designing the amazing show that is Shrek The Musical. Her most recent credits here at Berkeley Playhouse include A Little PrincessThe Wiz, and The Sound of Music on the MainStage. MIKE SWEENEY (Sound Designer and Engineer) Once Upon a Time… a young man set out into the world to earn his fame and fortune as a designer. He designed scenery and costumes for a while, then migrated through lighting into sound design; including such recent productions as The Drowsy Chaperone at Contra Costa Community Theater, and The Music Man here at the lovely Julia Morgan. MEGAN LUSH (Props Designer) provided props and set dressing. She works as a production artist all over the Bay Area doing props and set construction. She has been involved in theatre for over 10 years and film for 4. Megan’s recent projects include: The Speakeasy and Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Boxcar Theatre; A Little Princess and The Wiz at Berkeley Playhouse; and Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee BoyMercy Watson to the Rescue and The Cat in the Hat with Bay Area Children’s Theatre. She is in LOVE with art in every form, and is proud to have been a part of this fantastic adventure.
CHRISTINA BAUER (Assistant Stage Manager) is thrilled to be working on her first production with Berkeley Playhouse. Previous credits include Orlando and Escanaba in da Moonlight with TheatreFirst; The Taming of the Shrew, Hamlet, and The Merry Wives of Windsor with Livermore Shakes; Guys and Dolls, Les Misérables, Cats, The Wizard of Oz, HONK!, and Beauty and the Beast with Star Struck Children’s Theatre; Defiance, Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread, and Picasso at the Lapin Agile with James Madison University. She is proud to have worked as a drama teacher for Arts Academy in Fremont, CA. She holds a degree in anthropology, theatre, and political science from James Madison University.
