Are you a theater lover looking to try something new?
The Berkeley Playhouse CIT (Counselor-in-Training) Program offers young people the opportunity to gain practical training and develop leadership skills while participating in our SUMMER musical theater camp activities. You’ll have the opportunity to assist in rehearsals and final showings while receiving mentorship from Bay Area Professionals! Please note this program is only available for Summer Camps.
By becoming a CIT, you’ll:
- Work with and shadow Bay Area theater professionals
- Develop leadership skills and teacher training
- Receive a Certificate of Completion signed by Berkeley Playhouse’s Producing Director
- Receive a recommendation letter by request
- Get High School/College credit or Community Service credit
- Get a free camp T-shirt
CIT Responsibilities:
- Attend a 2-hour pre-camp orientation to learn basic classroom management and activity planning.
- This will be held on Wednesday, May 21, at the Julia Morgan Theater from 5pm-7pm.
- Assist with class activities and final showings.
- Keep a daily log of observations and activities.
- Lead an activity
- For 1- and 2-week camps you will coordinate a group activity with the teaching artist on the final day of camp.
- For 3-week camps you will assistant-direct a scene/song for the final showing.
- Assist teachers and teaching assistants with classroom set up and break down.
- Help backstage during final performances.
- Attend weekly camp meetings and facilitate check-in.
- Collect donations and assist with fundraising efforts.
Requirements:
- Must be a rising 8th-12th grade student. (Currently in 7th-12th grade)
- Must complete the CIT application form by April 30, 2025.
- Must provide parental permission and 2 references (not family members).
- $260 tuition fee per week if admitted.
