Hadestown Teen Edition tells a version of two intertwined love stories from Greek mythology – young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and immortal Hades and wife Persephone. Set in a Depression-era world, poverty-stricken Eurydice and Orpheus struggle to make ends meet, but Orpheus promises he is working on a song that will bring them hope again. Meanwhile, Persephone is enjoying her summer in the world above when Hades comes to collect her for the return back to Hadestown, Hades’ underground factory. As Eurydice becomes more desperate for a better life, she is intrigued by the promises of working in Hadestown and makes a deal with Hades to reside there. When Orpheus learns of this deal, he journeys to the underworld to save Eurydice and empower the workers to escape the clutches of power-hungry Hades.
This Tony Award-winning folk opera invites audiences on a hell-raising adventure to the underworld and back. With a soundtrack inspired by New Orleans jazz and American folk music, and featuring a modern spin on classic Greek mythology tales, Hadestown Teen Edition is a captivating sung-through musical that explores fear, love, doubt, and faith in a world not unlike our own.
