Want to be a part of the Berkeley Playhouse magic? Here are your pathways to be considered for Berkeley Playhouse Mainstage productions!
Pathway 1
In-Person General Auditions
In-person general auditions for the 2027–2028 20th Anniversary Season are scheduled for Wednesday, January 6, 2027, from 6–10pm, and Saturday, January 9, 2027, from 12–4pm, and are open to AEA and Non-Union performers ages 18 and up who actively live and work in the SF Bay Area, and who have not auditioned in person for Berkeley Playhouse in the last 2 seasons.
How to Schedule
Audition appointments will be scheduled in 5-minute increments, and will be offered to eligible actors on a first-come, first-served basis until full. To schedule an in-person appointment, please submit your photo (jpg) and resume (pdf) to casting@berkeleyplayhouse.org with IN-PERSON GENERALS in the subject line.
What to Prepare
Please prepare 2 contrasting songs from the musical theater canon, or 1 song and 1 monologue, totaling no more than 3 minutes in length. An accompanist will be provided. We’ll also have an optional group dance call, so come ready to move, play, and have some fun!
Pathway 2

We’d Love to E-Meet You!
We welcome general video submissions year-round from performers interested in being considered for Berkeley Playhouse Mainstage productions! General video submissions are open to AEA and Non-Union performers of all ages who actively live and work in the SF Bay Area.
How to Submit
Please submit either 2 songs, or 1 monologue and 1 song, from a published play or musical to casting@berkeleyplayhouse.org with VIDEO GENERALS in the subject line. If available, we’d love to see your dance reel as well.

Pathway 3
Show-Specific Open Calls
Berkeley Playhouse holds open call video submissions for each Mainstage production announced throughout the season, typically casting 4–6 months prior to a show’s first rehearsal. Invited in-person callbacks generally follow.
We share submission opportunity dates and times on our website, on Theatre Bay Area’s digital platform, as well as in various Bay Area theater groups on Facebook. Stay connected, check back often, and don’t miss your next opportunity to audition!

We collaborate primarily with Non-Union performers, and have a limited number of AEA Single Use Engagement Category 2 Tier B contracts available each season. Non-Union performers over the age of 18 are issued a Volunteer Performer Agreement with a reimbursement to assist in covering travel costs, meals, and other expenses during the production process.
